Beef Up the Mission

"Send it to the Mission"
is what we're listening for after the purchase of each animal at
the 4-H Fair livestock auctions. KRM depends on these donations
to stock the freezer for another year. The first steer auctioned
at the Howard County 4-H Fair was donated anonymously to the
Mission. That was followed by another steer, 6 sheep, 1 goat and
70 hogs, including the Grand Champion Barrow shown by Blake
Howell (right). The cheer block (left) of Mission staff and board
members enthusiastically thanked the donors!
At the Carroll County auction we
received another steer and six hogs. The Clinton County auction
added another 10 hogs!
Our supply of beef was gone in
March this year and there was very little pork left by the 4-H
Fair time. We served 124,616 meals in 2009 and gave groceries to
3,960 people, supplying another 39,600 meals. The need in our
community is staggering. Please help us be ready to help the
homeless and hungry.

positive things to help their community! The goal this

Open Arms, the missions shelter for homeless women and
children. Rest, refreshments and tours are provided at Open Arms.
Each walker receives a free t-shirt.
Who: Walkers raise at least $50 each. Teams may have
up to 20 walkers. The Golden Sneaker Trophy is awarded to the top
fundraising team. 2010's winner was Rossville Bible Fellowship,
raising $4,544. There were 103 teams registered and approximately
800 people walked in 2010.
Where: Kokomo Rescue Mission Headquarters is
located at 321 W. Mulberry Street. Open Arms is at 929 N. Main
Street. The route for the walk is from KRM north on Washington
Street to Havens Street, east to Main Street, south to Open Arms.
The return route is south on Main Street to Mulberry Street and
west to the Mission.
When: Saturday, February 12, 2011 ~ Begin Walking: Between 8:30am - 10:30am
Benefits: Proceeds will benefit Open Arms,
KRM's shelter for homeless women and families. Open Arms provides
safe shelter, nutritious meals and Bible-based programs
addressing the underlying causes of homelessness, such as
substance abuse, incomplete education and lack of adequate life
skills.
Revenue: Walk revenue comes from
corporate and individual sponsors. Walkers solicit donations to
sponsor their participation. In eight years, the walk has raised
$487,000. The goal for 2011 is $80,000.
What if I can't walk? Put a sign in your yard advertising the
Walk and come join us for breakfast at Grace United Methodist
Church, across from the Mission. For a freewill donation,
breakfast will be available from 8: 00 am - 11:00 am.
