Sometimes the first step toward a changed life is a simple meal—and for many of our hungry, homeless, and/or hurting neighbors, that process begins with a Thanksgiving dinner. It’s one of Kokomo Rescue Mission’s biggest annual events and it’s a beacon of God’s love to the community.
2022 was a record year – 943 Meals were provided! We once again made the Thanksgiving meal available through Delivery, Drive-Through and Grab & Go. We Delivered 592 meals to those in our community, provided 143 meals to Drive-Through guests and 68 to those receiving Grab & Go meals – totaling 943 meals! These delicious meals of turkey, ham, dressing, rolls, gravy, vegetables, salad and desserts were packaged at Grace United Methodist Church by our faithful volunteers. Each family received a special Thanksgiving card and placemat to let them know that they are not alone and that they are loved.
In 2022, Kokomo Rescue Mission’s Red Ribbon Christmas Outreach provided boxes of toys, gifts, food, and toiletries for individuals and families throughout the six-county area served by the Mission. Over 2058 individuals from 768 households received Red Ribbon Christmas boxes that were prayerfully filled.
Volunteers filled the boxes with gifts appropriate for the age and gender of each recipient. Each person received a new gift purchased by the Mission and extra gifts lovingly reconditioned by volunteers throughout the year.
When the boxes were filled with gifts, they were taken to the Christmas Warehouse where volunteers added paper products, personal care items, and other items to prepare them for delivery. These boxes were either picked-up by the recipients or delivered to homes with the help of volunteers.
In 2022, Red Ribbon Christmas boxes were filled with 19,000 new and gift ready items. Gift cards to purchase food were given out to every family. A special thanks to the We Care organization, which donated vital funds to make this outreach possible.
